Abbey beers are either produced within a monastery or named after a defunct and fictitious abbey. Abbey beers come in various colours and tastes and are all medium to full bodied. It is only a Trappist beer if the beer is brewed by Monks.

– Chimay Red
Strength: 7% ABV
Size of Bottle: 33cl
Beer Description: A dark Trappist Beer that is the least strong compared to the other Chimay beers. It’s full bodied and smells of light fruity apricots.

– Leffe Blond
Strength: 6% ABV
Size of Bottle: 33cl
Beer Description:  An amber-coloured beer with a frothy head, which is best served between 7-8 degrees Celsius. Leffe Blonde has a subtle banana taste as well as cloves and vanilla. In 2017, it was awarded a gold medal at the World Beer Awards for the category of “World’s Best Belgian Style Blonde”. In 2019, it was awarded a silver medal at the World Beer Awards for the category of “World’s Best IPA Speciality”.

– Ename Rouge
Strength: 6% ABV
Size of Bottle: 33cl
Beer Description: Ename Rouge is a Belgian, Abbey, fruit beer made with cherries. It is a refreshing beer with no trace of bitterness.

– Poperings Hommelbier
Strength: 7.5% ABV
Size of Bottle: 25cl
Beer Description: Poperings Hommelbier is a Flemish pale ale that is classed as a “living beer”. This Abbey beer is twice as bitter as any other Belgian beer due to the amount of hops used. It is brewed by the Leroy Breweries and was first brewed in 1981.

– Rochefort 6
Strength: 7.5% ABV
Size of Bottle: 33cl
Beer Description:  Rochefort 6 is a dark Trappist beer that is the weakest out of the Rochefort beers. The Abbey first brewed this beer in 1953 and the recipe has hardly changed since.

– Westmalle Tripel
Strength: 9.5% ABV
Size of Bottle: 33cl
Beer Description: This Trappist beer (brewed by monks) is clear and golden with a fruity aroma. It is soft and creamy and is known as the “mother of all triples”.
