About the Dell PowerEdge R840 Server
This refurbished Dell PowerEdge R840 server is a part of Dells latest server range, Generation 14.
This rack server provides excellent flexibility allowing you to configure this server in a variety of ways which deliver powerful performance for in-database analytics and data-intensive applications. On top of that Dell has integrated security which protects you against unauthorized changes to the firmware.
Processors for the PowerEdge R840
In this server you can choose between having a 2 processor configuration or a 4 processor configuration. You’re able to choose from the 2nd generation of Intel Xeon scalable processor family in this particular model. If you are wanting to achieve the maximum of 6TB in this server, you have to choose the processors which have the “M” suffix as these are specifically designed to support that amount of memory.
Memory for the Dell PowerEdge R840 Server
You can have a maximum of 48 active memory modules when choosing a quad-processor configuration. Each processor supports 12x memory module slots with 2 modules per channel. You can choose between DDR4 ECC Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) or Non-Volatile (NVDIMM) memory modules for this system. If you are looking to choose Non-Volatile memory you can only have up to 384GB, the rest of the memory slots can have be populated with RDIMM memory modules.
Storage on the PowerEdge R840
There are a few different options for storage with the R840. This server is very flexible and can house a mixture of SSD’s, HDD’s and even NVMe drives. You’re able to have up to 6 PCIe cards depending on which riser you wish to select. The server will support either (4) x16 PCIe Gen3 slots or (2) x16 slots with (4) x8 PCIe slots.
